Crystal Palace fans on Twitter have been quick to have their say after The Daily Mail reported that the Eagles have joined two Premier League rivals in the race to sign free-agent centre-back Gary Cahill.
The Daily Mail say that the south London outfit have joined West Ham United and Burnley in the chase for the accomplished 33-year-old, who is available for nothing having left Chelsea on the expiry of his contract at the end of June.
The report says manager Roy Hodgson is keen to sign him because of his experience and his leadership qualities – he was of course named club captain at Stamford Bridge following John Terry’s departure in 2017.

Palace have still only brought in Stephen Henderson and Jordan Ayew with less than a week of the summer transfer window remaining, and a new centre-back looks to be needed given Martin Kelly and Jairo Riedewald have filled in there during pre-season in the absence of James Tomkins and Mamadou Sakho.
Eagles supporters have been debating the potential signing of the former England international on social media, and they are largely split.

While one said they “would take him”, another disagreed and said they “don’t need a CB”.
Another decided to focus on sporting director Dougie Freedman who divides opinion among the Selhurst Park faithful, saying “at least that’s one signing the fans can’t pin on Dougie” in relation to the original article stating he was a Hodgson target.
Here is just a selection of the Twitter reaction…
